Keeping you V clean (Yes, we're hinting at your Vulva)

Keeping you V clean (Yes, we're hinting at your Vulva)

Hello Peaches,

Hope you and your V are doing well !

Many of you, though our online questionnaire and on social media, have been asking us if you should clean your vagina.
Some of you have heard that it's self-cleansing, so why use the balm ?

We thought we'd jump on this opportunity to review how to take care of our Peaches and answer your burning question on how the vulva balm helps.

The first question to ask is...which intimate part(s) are we supposed to clean, exactly ? The Vagina ? The Vulva ? Both ? Bits and pieces of each ? None ?

It's very confusing and a little overwhelming.

Let's break it down. First, let's redefine the different anatomical body parts of our peach

Quick Reminder : The Vulva is the whole Enchilada

The Vulva and the Vagina are different body parts :

  • The Vulva is the external organs. It includes the the clitoris, the mon pubis, the labias (majora and minora), the anus, the vagina, the urethra (whole you pee from) and the perineum. When you look in a mirror, you see... YOUR VULVA! <3

  • The Vagina, on the other hand, is invisible, apart from the small whole that's the entryway to your vagina...
It's the muscular canal that connects the uterus to the Vulva. It's where babies pass through during birth, as well as the menstrual flood (period).

To know more about the difference, check out our blog post on this : The V-Word.

Cleansing your Peach

So... now that we've reviewed our intimate bits let's dive deep into what we should or should NOT clean !

1. The Vagina

Breaking news : The Vagina is SELF CLEANING !

It does not need help to be clean. Let it do it's thing.
Do NOT insert anything in there, unless it gives you pleasure ;) No Douching, no inserting soap or other toxic chemicals....

What is douching ?

Douching is washing or cleaning the inside of the vagina with water or other mixtures of fluids.

Most douches are sold in stores as prepackaged mixes of water and vinegar, baking soda, or iodine. The mixtures usually come in a bottle or bag.
You squirt the douche upward through a tube or nozzle into your vagina.

The water mixture then comes back out through your vagina.

Why you should not douche or insert chemicals or soap in your vagina ?

1 in 5 women, 15-44 years old (in the USA) douche.

Douching can actually be dangerous for your vagina and health.

Douching can change the balance of your vaginal flora (bacteria that live in the vagina) and natural acidity in a healthy vagina.

A healthy vagina has good and harmful bacteria. The balance of bacteria helps maintain an acidic environment. The acidic environment protects the vagina from infections or irritation.

Douching can cause an overgrowth of harmful bacteria. This can lead to a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. If you already have a vaginal infection, douching can push the bacteria causing the infection up into the uterusfallopian tubes, and ovaries. This can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, a serious health problem.

It can also trigger problems (in some cases) during pregnancy, trigger STIs and Vaginal irritation or dryness.

In a nut shell, LEAVE YOUR VAGINA ALONE ! <3

2. The Vulva

The Vulva on the other hand, where your clit, your lips, the entryway to your vagina... are, that part, and that part ONLY, needs you to Clean her, heal her, care for her and love her !

By washing your vulva, you prevent it from developing bacteria and yeast infections, from accumulating in your vulva and moving and developing in your vagina.

Here are the different steps as well as the DOs and DON'Ts, when cleaning your Vulva !

To Do's

  • Wash your vulva once a day (possibly twice during your period), as part of your regular bathing/showering routine.
  • Do NOT use washcloths (which may contain germs).
  • Use your cleaned hands (wash them before cleaning the private area).
  • Avoid foaming antiseptics such as scented gels, soaps, bath products or personal hygiene products. If you HAVE to use a cleanser, use a mild soap, without perfume/fragrand, with a neutral pH.
  • After washing, do not use perfum or deodorants on your V.

4 steps to washing your vulva

  1. Thoroughly cleanse the vulva (labia minora and labia majora) from front to back. Do not put soap inside the vagina and do not take vaginal douches (which destroy the flora and thus promote the development of infections such as vaginal yeast infection).
  2. Then wash the anal area, without coming back to the vulva region. Otherwise, you would be bringing anal bacteria to the vulva, causing potential infections.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean and clear water.
  4. Dry yourself well with your personal towel, dabbing gently (without rubbing).

Our Vulva Balm (of course we'd mention it ;))

Once you're done cleaning your vulva, it's time to move onto giving her some well deserved love.

When we get out of the shower, we usually apply body and face lotions.
Why ? To protect and hydrate our skins. Showering, pollution, everyday life can take a toll on our skins.
By applying creams to it, you strengthen and protect it, reducing the potential dryness, irritations and infections you may experience.

So why not do the same to our vulvas?
They are constantly being triggered and jolted around : tight clothes, riding bikes, working out, using toilet paper, periods, waxing/shaving, sex, being pregnant, post-partum, menopause... The list is endless.

33% of women suffer from vulvar dryness, redness and irritations...
We wanted to give love and protection to our vulvas, while getting better acquainted with them. They are a core part of our body and of our lives (sex, pregnancies, menstrual cycles...) and hard to ignore.

So why not get to know them better, by loving them and protecting them ?

Our balm is designed to sooth, hydrate and protect your vulva, as you would your other body parts :

  • 7 clean and 100% plant-based ingredients
  • 100% natural
  • Ingredients that you know and mostly use in your everyday lives
  • No funny business or weird or toxic chemical

We want to you to feel confortable applying our balm to your vulva and building that trust with her and us.
